From the middle of 1970s development of biotechnological and bioengineering methods takes more and more important position among other biological discipline, although the use of biological objects in the several industrial branches is far from new idea. So baking, brewing, wine making, dairy have been grounding on the using of microorganisms for a long time.

During the more than thirty years of these discipline development scientists have been succeeded in knowledge, methods and experimental data accumulation. However the elaboration of growing information flow becomes increasingly difficult in the last years. As a result of that Systems biology and concerned research take on significant role because methods which are using in this field of biological knowledge are able to be instruments of structuring and systematization of accumulated information.

In our research work applied research in the field of bioengineering and biotechnology take significant place. Currently it is possible to distinguish in this sphere two directions. The first one is a bioengineering direction based on strain improvement for the yield increase of final product, the second is biotechnological direction, which is connected with increase of productive efficiency indusitrial processes.



Development and implementation of control systems to optimize bioreactor operation

thumb_pacs_0.jpg Industrial production of drugs and/or their components is based very often on the work of an enzyme which catalyses the reaction of their synthesis. Drug production in the industrial quantities with the assistance of enzymes requires often the optimization of process in the reactor. Indeed on the several steps of production cycle several by-products, which pollute final product and increase its yield might be produced concurrently with the main product. Furthermore enzyme which catalyzes the reaction of product formation may be inactivated or works nonoptimally in the conditions of industrial production. Thus, the competent control of process which takes place in the reactor on the every step of technological cycle is required for increase of production effectiveness. It may be fulfilled by using of special program product which should answer at least two main requirements  - take into consideration all the features of industrial process and account in detail the mechanism of enzyme action. The method developed takes all these factors into account.

Development of knowledge base on clavulanic acid metabolism in Streptomyces clavuligerus

ClavamsClavulanic acid is an important component of a number of antibiotics. Main method of this compound production is a biotechnological synthesis using strains of Streptomyces clavuligerus.

AIM OF THE PROJECT: search and collection of available experimental data characterizing biochemical properties of Streptomyces clavuligerus strains and an offer of strain improvement program based on predictions of the kinetic model of Streptomyces clavuligerus metabolism developed.
