Signal pathways in osteoblasts and chondrocytes

The object of research is bone and cartilaginous tissues of mammalian organism. The aim of project is to reveal signals transduction mechanism in osteoblasts and chondrocytes – in cells which play key role in formation of mature bones and cartilage. Knowledge about signal pathways will allow regulating number and functioning quality of these cells.

Thus, one of possible ways of fighting with senile osteoporosis – bone tissue degradation - is bone tissue recovery at the expense of intensification of osteoblasts formation from steam-cells of bone marrow. One of the variants of osteoblasts flux decrease in bone tissue may basis on the following phenomenon. Principally, steam cell is precursor of several types of cells (adipocytes, chondrocytes, osteoblasts etc). On the defined step of steam cell maturity it choose the way of development in direction of adipose tissue cell (adipocyte) or in direction of osteoblast in depending on signals incoming from environment.

Correspondingly, drug effect may have medicinal “help” to steam cell in differentiation choosing in direction of osteoblasts (i.e., bone tissue formation) at the expense of signal transduction control.

Signal transmission research in chondrocytes is directed to the data receiving about calcium TRPV4 channels work regulation. The activity of such channels generates effect, which compensate ruined effect on cartilaginous tissue from cytokine IL-1. At present time are going the investigations for searching of mutual crossing on the level of molecular transporters between TRPV4 and IL-1 signal systems.
